Someone once asked me, why websites?

/ Business / Life

I wasn’t always the lover of code that I am today. In fact, I was a very sporty child, more likely to be on a trampoline than a computer (yes trampoline is still my sport of choice – my other passion). We didn’t have a computer in my family home until I was 15 (yes, they were about back then!). I never thought about being a business owner or even how websites worked. I wanted to win Olympic gold or be a barrister! I wasn’t an obsessive who spent hours in their room writing code – well not back then!

Then, as happens with most people things changed. I developed a medical condition that made it hard to trampoline and harder still to be employed. But this really isn’t a story of woe. After a few trial and error ventures. Mainly trying to sell things I loved, but that nobody else really wanted to buy! I borrowed a book from the library about webdesign.

I think what appealed to me most was that all you needed was a computer and an internet connection. Two things I had access to at the time. I was 23 and still living at home so I had the opportunity and time to dedicate myself to learning a new skill.

After I completed the first task in the book I was hooked. It felt liked magic. I put in some lines of what seem like random letters and words and the screen transformed. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I felt like I had found that thing in life I was looking for. I could see how I could make money with this skill and not only that I was enjoying it. Much better than standing on market stalls!

Someone once asked me, why websites?

I spent the next year developing my skills, starting my business in 2009 and have never looked back. Don’t get me wrong, running a business isn’t all code and magic. There are even things about creating websites that don’t appeal to me as much as writing code. But I have also found a great passion for creating websites for small to medium sized businesses. I get to learn new things all the time. I get to work with many different types of business and people. It might be stressful at times, but I’m never bored! I love creating website, and I still find it just as much fun even after 8 years.

Thanks for reading,
Have a lovely day,
